Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) February 29, 2012
Cognitech, Inc. has announced the receipt of the following patent awards from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, for the invention of the System and Method for Three-Dimensional Estimation Based on Image Data, and the System and Method for Pattern Detection and Camera Calibration.
The System and Method for Three-Dimensional Estimation Based on Image Data invention is a method and apparatus for extracting a dense 3D model of an observed scene or object from one or more sequences of images which are acquired with an imaging device such as a camera or camcorder, or clusters of cameras and/or camcorders. 3D models that are extracted from each image sequence are combined and merged to create a 3D model of the whole scene. This is an essential tool to have when it comes to doing accident reconstruction models or other geo-spatial imaging applications.
The System and Method for Pattern Detection and Camera Calibration invention is a method and apparatus for an accurate calibration of cameras, which is an essential and crucial prerequisite for any 3D analysis and image reconstruction from image and video data. The applications span many industrial fields that include forensic and geo-spatial applications.
Cognitechs CEO, Dr. Lenny Rudin said, in regards to this invention, It is not an every day event, to be awarded a coveted US Patent. To be awarded two US patents in one month is a once-in-a-life time event. This comes as a result of a prolonged and concentrated effort by Cognitechs R&D team to push the envelopes of science and technology, which in part benefits the field of justice and the field of geo-spatial imaging.
